What is this medication used for?

Duromine (Phentermine) is an anorectic agent (an agent that suppresses appetite). It is for people with overweight and weight-related complications or obesity. It is meant to be used as a short-term adjunct in a comprehensive regimen of weight reduction, which includes diet and exercise.

Dosage and How to Use

  • Duromine comes in capsule form, to be taken by mouth.
  • Swallow the capsules whole with plenty of water. Do not chew or open the capsules.
  • The best time to take Duromine is first thing in the morning (before breakfast or 1 to 2 hours after breakfast), as it can cause sleeplessness if taken at night. Taking it at the same time each day will have the best effect. It will also help you remember when to take it.
  • It is important that you take the dose the doctor has recommended for you. Taking more than the recommended dose will increase the side effects you experience and may not increase the effect on weight loss.

What to do if I missed a dose?

If you forget to take your Duromine dose at breakfast, take it no later than lunchtime. Alternatively, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose at the normal time on the next day. If you take Duromine any later than lunchtime you may have trouble sleeping at night.

Never take a double dose to make up for a dose you have missed.

What are the possible side effects of the medicines?

Common side effects include:

  • Dry mouth and unpleasant taste
  • Restlessness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Palpitations
  • Increased blood pressure

Inform your doctor if the side effects above become severe and bother you.

What are some rare but serious side-effects that I need to seek medical advice immediately?
