What is Rozex® Gel (0.75% Metronidazole) used for?

Rozex® Gel contains 0.75% Metronidazole which help to control infection and inflammation of the skin. Rozex® Gel is used for the treatment of inflammatory papules and pustules of rosacea. Studies have shown that topical Metronidazole is the most effective for treatment of inflammatory papules and pustules in rosacea patients.

Skin affected by rosacea has one or more of the following features: a redness that looks like a blush; pimples; small knobbly lumps on the nose and/or thin red lines due to enlarged blood vessels.

Dosage and How to Use

Rozex® Gel (0.75% Metronidazole) should always be used as instructed by your doctor. Before you start this treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet from inside your pack. The manufacturer’s leaflet will give you more information about how to use the medicine correctly. Generally, the steps are as follows:

  • Wash and dry your hands before applying the gel.
  • Apply a thin and even layer every morning and evening to a dry, clean face.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes and lips. Do not apply to open wounds or irritated skin.
  • Wash your hands immediately after application.
  • Do not apply more than the recommended amount or more often than twice daily.
  • Continue to use even though there may not be an immediate effect. Improvements may occur after as few as 2 weeks but full results are typically observed after 8-9 weeks of treatment.
  • You can apply makeup after Rozex® Gel dries.

What are the possible side effects of Rozex® Gel?

Adverse reactions reported with Rozex® Gel include eye irritation (watering) if the gel is applied too closely to this area, transient redness, mild dryness, burning and skin irritation. None of the side effects exceeded an incidence of 2% of patients.

Relapses often occur when Rozex® Gel is discontinued, thus long-term therapy is usually required.

What precautions should I take?

Inform your healthcare professional if:

  • If you are pregnant, trying for a baby, or breastfeeding.
  • If you have an allergy to Metronidazole or any of inactive ingredients in the gel.
  • If you have or ever have had a blood disorder.
  • If you are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, as well as herbal and complementary medicines.

A National Rosacea Society survey identified sun as the #1 rosacea trigger. Minimizing exposure to sun by wearing protective clothing or applying a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher may help.

Handling and storage
